Andreas Weiss — A Drummer's Portrait
A short documentary portrait of Viennese jazz drummer Andreas Weiss — capturing the man behind the kit. Shot across live performances and intimate bar conversations, the film follows his musical journey, his philosophy, and the quiet spaces between the beats where character lives.

The film opens in a bar at night. Drinks, faces, the ambient warmth of a room held together by music playing just below the surface. It's the right setting for Andreas Weiss — a drummer whose presence is felt before it's seen.
Shot in a classic portrait style across multiple locations, the documentary weaves together live performance footage, candid interviews, and the atmosphere of the spaces where music actually happens. The conversations move through the arc of a musical life: first encounters with the drums, the artists who shaped him, the gigs that stayed with him, and what it means — day to day, off stage — to live inside rhythm.
The format was a deliberate choice. No narration, no distance. Instead, an off-camera conversation between filmmaker and subject that keeps the tone close and honest. The result is less a biography than a mood — a portrait of someone for whom music isn't a career so much as a way of seeing the world.
Directed and produced by Lewin Strobl.

"Honestly, I didn't have high expectations — film portraits of musicians tend to get clichéd fast. What Lewin made genuinely surprised me. He listened before he filmed. The atmosphere is right, the edit holds, and the result feels like me — not a polished version of me. If you need someone who actually understands a project before they start, Lewin is your person."
